glock 30s gen 5 review

Glock 30s Gen 5 Review - I was standing in the Glock booth at Media Day before the SHOT show last January, waiting to see what all the hype was about.

New Glock. New compact .45 ACP Glock. Compact for 10 rounds .45 Glock. With all that was seen at the SHOT show, a new Glock built from parts of other existing Glocks was not high on my must-see list.

As I stood there in the biting cold wind waiting for an opportunity to shoot the thing, I was not impressed. The weapon did not seem small

Or new enough for all the hype. But then a member of the Glock team who felt I was unimpressed came to extol the virtues of the 30s. And he took one out of his coat pocket.

I didn't even see it and I choose these things well. He wore an elegant black woolen coat and the gun fit perfectly in his pocket. And there are 10 shots. And .45 ACP. And Glock. And then I shot it. And I have to admit that I was more than a little impressed.

What is this little animal? It's a kind of project weapon. For those who say Glock, the 30S is a Glock 30 SF frame with a Glock 36 slide.

The exterior has a Gen 3 look, but the recoil system inside is built in Gen 4. The dual-stack magazine is thick, but not impossible to hold. It is short, but there is room for all the fingers.

The sights are standard Glock fixed sights. Because the gun is intended to be concealed, some of the corners are slightly rounded. The barrel is 3.78 inches for an overall length of 6.8 inches. It is 4.76 inches tall and 1.28 inches wide. It weighs 20 grams.

The 10+1 magazine will be the real draw for most of us. 11 rounds of .45 ACP. Not too bad.

What is most impressive about the 30S is how well the recoil is controlled. I have trained some .45's that really bite. This isn't the hottest bike on the market, but it's generating backlash. This recoil is even more difficult to control in a compact pistol. But if you watch the video above, you'll see how Jacob took the plunge with the 30S. The barrel hardly moves.

Of course, this requires you to hold on tight and use your other hand effectively, but with the 30S it's easy. Like most Glocks I've shot, the 30S performs reliably with ball, hollow points and +P. We shot 300 rounds the first afternoon and had no problems.

The trigger pull is somewhere north of 5 pounds. The test gun we have has a decently smooth pull with a reliable break. With no manual slide safeties to operate, the trigger acts as a safety feature, and the 5- to 6-pound pull provides adequate insurance against accidental discharge and is light enough to allow defensive accuracy.

To wrap up the basic 30S review, I'll offer this one. I'm not a Glock guy. I do not own a Glock and never have. But maybe soon. I really like the way the 30S drives. If I can say this without sounding reductive, it works like a Glock. It's small enough to conceal, offers 11 rounds of .45 ACP firepower, and handles as easily as many full-size .45s. MSRP for the 30S is $637. Not bad.

We brought a Glock 19 with us this week and it got a little confusing. From the outside they are almost identical. There were two of us sitting on a bench between the video shots and I had to read the numbers on the slides to tell them apart.

30S and 19 are so close in size that they fit in the same suitcases. I haven't found a cover for the 30S yet, but it fits the BlackHawk SERPA CQC well.

This should be true for any holster that is adjustable (by that I mean tension) or leather (that only stretches a touch). The 30S is a fraction of an inch (0.10 inches) wider than the 19, so you may need more room. Kydex can be more of a challenge.

I think the question becomes a question of arithmetic. Would you rather have 16 rounds of 9mm or 11 rounds of .45 ACP. Talking just five rounds apart, I'll go with the .45 any day. But that's me.

I think the 30S will appeal to many who are looking for a compact .45, but want more than the limited capacity of a single magazine of a pistol like the Springfield Armory XDs (which are only slightly thinner than the 30S, but lack four rounds. ) .

According to a Glock spokesperson, the 30S was originally built for plainclothes LAPD officers who wanted a compact .45 ACP with enough capacity to be used as a serviceable backup weapon. It is definitely up to the task. But it is more than that, and for many it will be.

The 30S pistol would make a great primary pistol for civilians and civilians who can legally carry such a staggeringly high capacity in their respective states. Glock G30S Pistol – Built on the G30 SF frame, the G30S combines a full .45 AUTO cartridge capacity with a slimmer slide.

Compared to other pistols I have held in my hands. Not bad, just stronger than most. I must have liked it because it had only been a few months since I bought one.

Full disclosure: most of the guns I review are new to me and my review is all about first impressions. Not so with this one. I owned the original G30 before the 30S was released and sold my G30 in 2014 to get the G30S. It is lighter and thinner than the original model and is a gem of a gun; a .45 caliber suppressor in a compact frame that just feels right to me. Aside from the fact that it is chambered in .45 ACP, the Glock 30S is perhaps my favorite handgun.

The first and last reason to consider a Glock pistol of any variety is simplicity and reliability. There is no simpler and more reliable gun on the planet than the Glock. The G30S is also designed for concealed carry - it's a compact version of the Glock 21 service pistol. So you might consider carrying the G30S for its easy concealability (it's slightly smaller than the G19).

You may consider the G30S for its .45 chambering, as many people prefer fewer large-caliber rounds to more small-caliber rounds on the hip. If you have larger hands, you may want to consider the 30S for its robust grip radius. It's a double barrel .45 so it has a meaty grip that fills the hand. Despite the large chamber, double stack with large rounds in the magazine, and meaty grip, the G30S is a relatively light pistol to carry at just over 30 ounces loaded.

Glock G19 Gen4 Vs Glock G30 Sf Size Comparison

The Glock 30S is a slightly smaller version of the G30. The main features are the thinner slide width (1" compared to 1.12") and lighter slide unit (it's a full 3.5 grams lighter than the G30 slide unit), and with the SF frame, the 30S has a slightly shorter trigger range. one
