Walther Pocket Pistol - One of the most respected small automatic pistols is the Walther PPK. The Walther P series was not the first double-action first shot pistol; the Little Tom preceded the Walther, although the Walther PP is widely regarded as a quality, well-made, reliable pistol.
The most recent PPK/S is the result of import restrictions and other nonsense following the passage of the Gun Control Act of 1968. The PPK/S features a short Walther PPK action and a full length PP grip.

The PPK/S is not a bad pistol at all. The combination of what were considered onerous laws and the high regard for PPK affected sales of the PPK/S, although the pistol eventually became widely available; after all, obtaining a PPC was out of the question.

A few years later Walther started making pistols in the US and the rest is history as the import point is not available for our own pistols.
PPK is a great weapon. However, if you have used a full size original PP pistol, you will find the PPK to be an excellent shooter, easy to control and accurate.
PPK is known as James Bond's Portable Weapon. I don't wear a tuxedo and drive a Ford truck instead of an Aston Martin. Still, I appreciate Walther PPK. In many ways, this is a simple pistol.
The trigger is double action, first shot, and the working action is a simple retaliatory action without complicating the locking action. The barrel is about 3.25 inches long, making it heavier than newer generation polymer framed shotguns.

For some reason it's harder. The recoil is light and the gun is accurate, even surprisingly. Double-action, the first shot is elongated and smooth, and is most useful at conversational distance.
Less than 4 pounds of pull makes for a smooth and crisp single-action pull, making the trigger action the first choice for precision shooting. Fuses and decokers on the slider are part of the design. Pressing the decoker down safely lowers the cocked hammer, and the lever acts as a safety if pressed all the way down.
PPK fuses are easily handled by medium-sized hands. Unlike the safety levers on larger pistols like the Beretta 92, this lever is easily accessible due to the PPK's smaller size. The fit and finish of the Walther PPK are excellent. The fit is great in the hand, and while it might be a bit cramped for larger hands, the pistol fits most of us well.
My pistol has two magazines. One of them has a finger extension, which is better for larger hands. The ribbed grip provides good grip when shooting. This is important because the hand must remain steady while firing the gun and pulling the double-action trigger.

PPK slides are notorious for biting into the web of the firing arm when recoiling. I have experienced this damage in these fire tests. Perhaps there is a way to grab a gun that avoids this problem.
Handguns have also had a less-than-stellar reputation for reliability in the past. However, having owned at least half a dozen original PP, PPK and PPK/S versions of this type (including a .22 LR version and several .32 ACP versions), I can't think of anything wrong. I have a battered police pistol that occasionally loses the magazine because the latch wears out, but overall these pistols are reliable.
I've found that they require more frequent cleaning and lubrication than some types, although this was an integral part of older models. The old model was fine. They just need more care.
You must hold the gun firmly to ensure it works properly. The PPK is a blowback bolt - the simplest design - with a return spring wrapped around the barrel.
Deactivated Walther Model 8 Pistol
Walther magazines are well designed to hold loaded cartridges securely under the feed. Downloading logs takes some effort. I took my personal sample out of the safe, oiled it and got it ready for this test and review.
I have used the Fiocchi 95 grain FMJ cartridge loader for long range shooting and it is reliable, accurate and clean. I fired 50 rounds of Fiocchi in rapid fire practice and found the pistol to be more accurate than one would think.
Sights were the limiting factor; however, they were larger than many pocket pistols of the era.
Walter is gaining momentum quickly. The double-action trigger is smoother in some examples than in others. After about 5 yards, instead of trying to pull the trigger and hope to hit the target, cock the hammer and take a deliberate shot.
The Legend Is Back: The Walther Ppk Is Being Manufactured Again After A Decade Long Break
In single-action mode, Walter is quite accurate, and it is not difficult to insert the magazine into the X-ring burst at 10 yards. Returns are controlled. I don't like the .380 ACP for personal protection - that's it.
With most JHP ammo in this caliber, the balance of penetration and expansion is too short on the expansion side, limiting the effectiveness of the cartridge.
The .380 ACP is simply not strong enough to penetrate and expand under most loads. This is a personal decision. I tested the PPK with several hollow tip charges and found them to be reliable and accurate enough to provide protection. Accuracy is the single most important component of wound potential.
I believe this charge will provide enough penetration and expansion to allow accurate and reliable loading of a charge suitable for personal protection.
Walther Model 8
Walther PPK pistols are popular, often more for looks, fit, finish, and even mystery than performance. There are more powerful pistols, though few of them will make you proud.
The balance of the pistol is perfect and holds up well. It is generally considered a pocket pistol and fits in most pockets. The PPK pistol is easy to shoot at close range, at least single shot, and in skilled hands it can hit targets quickly. Generally, nothing to complain about.
While James Bond is famous for carrying the Walther PPK, it was the late Skeeter Skelton who actually saw it in action. Skelton has been writing about guns for decades. His work can be attributed to the bank.
So great was Skelton's talent that he sometimes went through a phase of information and enlightenment in order to create true literature. During his tenure as a police officer on the Mexican border, Skelton took his search for reliable weapons very seriously, so that he could wear a discreet weapon under his shirt.
Walther Model 9
The Smith and Wesson Model 19 .357 Magnum 2.5" barrel didn't work too well; he prefers the Colt Commander .45. He also carries PPK as needed.
He tested the pistol's ability to penetrate pine planks. The PPK .380 ACP had the same penetration into pine boards as the most common .38 Special at the time, the 158-grain RNL. The 158 grain .38 offers about 700 fps from a 2" barrel, while the 95 grain FMJ .380 ACP is over 900 fps.
Obviously, either of them can be used for concealed carry. Today, the habeas corp is well over .38 Special and gives it a distinct edge. Likewise, the .380 ACP has the ability to penetrate vital signs. The rest is up to you.
For the test program, I used the Alien Gear IWB/Tuckable hybrid, an affordable and high-quality holster with a clean health card.
