Walther Ppk Accuracy - Dr. No was the first James Bond film, but the sixth book. In it, Bond (James Bond) reluctantly trades his .25 ACP Beretta chambered in a Walther PPK for a more powerful .32 ACP chambered in what is described as "delivering like a brick through a glass window." Although the Mossad is still a little .22 for wet close-up work, it's safe to assume that most people will buy a relatively small-caliber pistol for beginner training, target shooting, and fun. Walther's PPK/S .22 lets you do it .007 style. .
New for 2013, the Walther PPK/S long .22 rifle is very similar to the centerfire PPK in almost every way, from the controls to the weight and size to the handling, fit and finish. With millions of casual 007 fans out there, I have to say I think it was a good idea to introduce the PPK in this room, making manual shooting more accessible and potentially more fun. The new shooters are certainly the best in sports where the recoil of the .380 can be quite rough.

The /S version was created by Walter in 1968. to comply with the new import requirements for "sporting purposes" under the Arms Control Act. The "S" stands for Sport and the frame is longer, meaning the handle is longer than standard. PPK. This actually makes the gun a lot more fun to shoot up and down the target because the bi-dixual pink has a home. It would probably be a good choice for a .22, which I imagine would not be a popular CCW choice where the extra size or weight would be undesirable.

In Walther's black plastic case, along with the PPK/S, there is a 10-round magazine, pistol lock, owner's manual, warranty card, NSSF safety booklet, and a zippered bag with some parts and tools. It includes two replacement front sights, one longer and one shorter than the one installed on the pistol, to adjust the point of impact for elevation, a flute punch to tighten the bolt on the front sight, an Allen wrench to adjust the rear sight. wind and wrench to remove the barrel nut. Although it has been a long time since I set up a PPK centerfire, I understand that the A/S controls are identical. The magazine release is a raised thumb button on the left side of the frame behind the top of the trigger guard. The slide-mounted safety flips up for "fire" and down for "safety." This is the opposite of most rifles with frame-mounted safeties, but it is standard for rifles with slide-mounted safeties; I'm not used to the location or the operation.
The safety is also the decocker, and depressing it safely drops the hammer. Unlike many pistols, the slide can be bolted securely. Doing so automatically lowers the hammer as the slide moves forward. Oddly, when you do this or unlock, the trigger remains in the rearward, more "step-down" position, even though the hammer is now down and the trigger moves forward to the double-action position while you flip the safety up. The slide re-locks empty, but there is no external slide lock/release control. You will have to insert an empty magazine if you want to lock the slide. The fit and finish on my nickel plated version is very good and the only ding is a line of roll marks on the slide and/or sharpness. Here it is not same as centfire version. The slide-frame fitment is decent and the quality of the visible parts (hammer, sights, safety, trigger, etc.) are all very good, especially for a .22. Lots of metal, very little plastic except for the grab bars. It looks like a real gun, not a smaller, lower quality, plasticier, lighter weight .22 version of the real gun that has so many variants.
That being said, I don't know what the slide or frame is actually made of, except I'm pretty sure it's not solid, partly because of the impression I get from just feeling and using it and the fact that it doesn't fit. pull magnets (I don't think it's stainless steel). The interior of the seating block appears to be made of steel, as are most of the small parts and controls mentioned above. No more guesswork from me, and I haven't heard of durability issues, but I bring this up because some people are concerned about zinc alloy and "butetal" slides cracking in some .22 pistols. So far so good here, but I only have 300 rounds through my model at this point, mostly due to trying to conserve my dwindling .22 stock.
Field removal is done exactly like Bond's PPK. Pull the hinged trigger guard down, pull the slide all the way to the rear, and raise it to the rear, straightening it from the front of the frame. The recoil spring uses the attached barrel as a guide rod. That's it. Field inventory.
A nut on the front of the barrel can be loosened to remove the barrel from the frame. However, the most common reason to remove this nut is to install a thread adapter. For example, extending the barrel beyond the front of the slide and providing a 1/2×28 thread to mount some sort of muzzle accessory like a compensator, a fake suppressor for an easy secret agent look, or a real suppressor is totally up to you. internal association. You'll see in the video above that he had a few hiccups right off the bat. Looks like my PPK/S wanted a little hack period and could use some lube too; it was very clean from the factory. You can actually see it getting better on the first range out, and after a few hundred revs it revs more reliably than it has since. However, it still definitely prefers the more powerful ammo (100% reliable so far) over the weaker stuff in loose cases (still have failures to pop the slide or get it far enough to fully recycle). Using the suppressor, it ran most Winchesters with almost complete reliability while still firing one stop per mag without a case. I think a lighter spring (hammer spring) would also cure it of its aversion to weaker ammo while providing solid primer hits.
It was my fault. Or, if I really wanted to, I guess I could try to blame the design of the rifle, but it was really a training issue. As you can see the slide is quite long and has "skirts" that cover the sides of the frame all the way to the right along the top of the trigger guard and along the top of the grips. It's lower compared to the side mini tire extension than I'm used to. Basically the only open frame is in the front and back of the handle panels (front and back bar, basically).
All of this means that I occasionally drove the slide a bit, whether with a thumb or two to the side, the thumb-forward grip doesn't work here unless you "fly" it sideways, or via my net. shooting arms at the bottom of slide bikes. Although I didn't feel a bite on the painful area, I could tell it was touching or rubbing on my right arm. With the weaker ammo, which was already barely spinning, any friction on the slide was disruptive. I actually think this gun is best shot one-handed, making sure it's not pinched by the grip because of how low the sides of the slide actually are.
Aside from the hassle of remembering how to adjust the firing handle, the PPK/S .22 was a real pleasure to shoot. Recoil is minimal and quite manageable considering the gun's weight and build, but it still provides enough kick and response to be a lot of fun to shoot. I have heavier steel .22 LR revolvers that barely budge when you do this
